We get called out to schools quite regularly to treat for mice in kitchens and lofts.
These mice can be rife with diseases that can spread to humans easily through their urine which can get in food and even their saliva when they take bites out of food from cupboards.
Mice are treated according to the location of the infestation. We tend to use a poison bait to stop the infestation.
The poison is put down in the open bait trays in lofts and under kitchen cupboards (by taking off plinths then replacing so no pets or children can get to the bait. If in classrooms etc then the bait is put in tamper-proof bait boxes.
We always use one fed poison which is of professional standard. The mice will need to feed 10 grams of this before they die.
We look for where the mice are entering the building, the entry points must be located and sealed off either by us or the customer.
We received a call from a lady who was having a problem with Starlings ans Sparrows nesting under her roof tiles. We have now been back to this housing estate several times and proofed several of her neighbour’s houses.
Bird droppings are highly acidic and can erode brickwork. Nesting debris also causes water blockages in gutters and down pipes.
Birds carry diseases E.Coli Salmonella and Ornithosis. These spread from dropping and nesting materials.
Treatment for bird problems is known as proofing. these can take the form of mesh guards installed to stop nesting inside. spikes, wire to stop birds landing and resting, net & plastic curtains to prevent access to large areas.
In this case simply eaves protection stopped the Starlings and Sparrows from squeezing under the roof lines.
